Morocco and Nigeria celebrated the 24th anniversary of King Mohammed VI's accession to the throne with a reception in Abuja. The event was attended by dignitaries, representatives from Nigerian authorities, diplomats, businessmen, and members of the Moroccan community. The celebration highlighted the strong historical and cultural ties between the two countries, as well as ongoing partnerships in various domains, such as the Nigeria-Morocco-ECOWAS gas pipeline and agricultural investments by the Office chérifien des phosphates (OCP).

Abuja - The Ambassador of His Majesty the King to Nigeria, Moha Ou Ali Tagma, hosted a reception in Abuja on Sunday evening to celebrate the 24th anniversary of King Mohammed VI's accession to the Throne of His glorious ancestors.

The event was graced by the presence of the daughter of the Nigerian President, Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, the Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, representatives from Nigerian authorities, senators, members of parliament, members of the diplomatic corps accredited to Abuja, businessmen, dignitaries from religious communities, as well as members of the Moroccan community residing in Nigeria.

During the reception, several personalities conveyed their sincere congratulations to the Ambassador of His Majesty the King in Nigeria for this glorious national celebration. They also expressed their appreciation and great esteem for the significant achievements accomplished by Morocco under the enlightened leadership of King Mohammed VI.

The attendees also had the opportunity to watch an institutional film showcasing Morocco's development progress and achievements in various fields.

In his speech, Mr. Tagma extended his congratulations to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on his election to lead this great country. He wished him every success in his noble mission and further prosperity and progress to the Nigerian people.

"Every year, on the occasion of the Throne Day, the Moroccan people, through their representatives and all their institutions, renew their allegiance to His Majesty the King, which has bound the Moroccan people and their Kings since the establishment of the State of Morocco in the year 789," emphasized Mr. Tagma.

He emphasized that "as an African country, Morocco contributes to ensuring Africa's rightful place in the concert of nations. In this regard, Morocco continues its efforts within the framework of South-South cooperation, making its contribution to Africa's prosperity."

"In this context, Morocco and Nigeria have strong historical relations, built on centuries-old human and cultural ties," he noted, adding that "the city of Fes in Morocco and the kingdoms of Borno, Kano, and Sokoto have had very close relations for centuries."

"Based on this solid foundation, a prosperous relationship between Morocco and Nigeria has been established and is already on the path towards a partnership of excellence," affirmed the Moroccan diplomat, highlighting "the Nigeria-Morocco-ECOWAS gas pipeline project, which is now a mature project about to be launched."

"This project, which will be one of the world's largest infrastructure projects, will shape the future of West Africa and contribute to the economic prosperity of the region," he noted.

Regarding the agricultural sector, Mr. Tagma observed that "the investment undertaken by the Office chérifien des phosphates (OCP) in Nigeria, the world's largest exporter of fertilizers, bodes well for a prosperous future for Nigerian agriculture."

The Moroccan group has already constructed three fertilizer production plants in Kaduna, Ogun, and Sokoto and has contributed to the renovation of more than 50 fertilizer blenders across the country, he informed.

He also mentioned that OCP plans to build a large fertilizer production complex in Akwa Ibom State, which will enable Nigeria to achieve self-sufficiency in fertilizer production to meet the needs of its agriculture. The investment in the project is estimated at USD 1.3 billion.

Regarding the bonds between Morocco and Nigeria, Mr. Tagma highlighted that "the relations between the two countries are also based on human exchanges," adding that "Morocco has become one of the preferred destinations for many Nigerians."

"Fes, the cradle of Tijaniya, Marrakech and its splendors, Tangier at the intersection of the Mediterranean and the Atlantic Ocean, and the legendary Casablanca have become familiar places to Nigerians," he continued, supporting that "this promising partnership is destined for a bright future".
