IBEDC Announces Upgrade of Prepaid Meters for Improved Efficiency
The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) Plc. has revealed plans to upgrade its Standard Transfer Specification (STS) prepaid meters through the Token Identification (TID) Rollover. This upgrade aims to enhance efficiency, maintain customer satisfaction, and align with global standards. IBEDC will provide Key Change Tokens (KCT) alongside regular energy tokens, allowing customers to seamlessly complete the meter upgrade process. The upgrade will not affect customers' tariff or credit unit balance.

The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) Plc. has announced an upcoming upgrade of its Standard Transfer Specification (STS) prepaid meters to enhance efficiency that aligns with global standards.

In a statement released in Ibadan, the Managing Director of IBEDC, Mr Kingsley Achife, disclosed that the upgrade, called Token Identification (TID) Rollover, is set to take effect from August 1st.

Achife emphasized that this upgrade aims to ensure continued seamless operation of prepaid meters while maintaining customer satisfaction.

The upgrade process will involve integrating a global software update into the STS meters, making them compatible with the new TID Rollover protocol.

Explaining the significance of the upgrade, Achife stated, "Starting from November 24th, 2024, all STS meters worldwide will cease to accept old credit tokens without the necessary meter upgrade."

To facilitate a smooth transition, IBEDC will provide its prepaid meter customers with Key Change Tokens (KCT) alongside their regular energy tokens when purchasing electricity.

The KCT serves as a unique reset token and is crucial for successfully completing the meter upgrade process. This token will be made available to customers free of charge, and the upgrade will not impact the current electricity tariff.

Customers are advised to take note of important details during the mandatory upgrade period.

Throughout the transition, IBEDC is committed to supporting its customers. Field officers will be available to assist customers and monitor compliance.

If a meter fails to load energy tokens following the KCT upgrade, customers are advised to promptly contact IBEDC's customer care at 07001239999, email them at customer[email protected], or send messages to the WhatsApp number 07059093900.

The meter upgrade process is a one-time requirement. Subsequent energy token purchases will continue as usual after the upgrade has been completed.

Customers can rest assured that their credit unit balance on the meter will remain intact after the upgrade. Additionally, any unused or previously purchased energy tokens must be loaded into the meters before August 1st, 2023, as old credit tokens will become obsolete.

This upgrade from IBEDC aligns with the company's commitment to providing efficient and reliable electricity distribution services to its customers while ensuring compliance with global standards.

With the Token Identification (TID) Rollover, IBEDC is taking proactive steps to enhance its prepaid metering system for a better customer experience. This upgrade will enable the meters to accept the new credit tokens, ensuring uninterrupted access to electricity for customers.
