Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has sworn-in 20 newly appointed local government caretaker committee chairmen, urging them to be accountable and transparent in the discharge of their duties. The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Multi-purpose Indoor Sport House in Bauchi. The governor, assisted by the Chief Judge of the State, Mrs. Rabi Talatu Umar, emphasized the significance of the local government administration as a yardstick for his government's success.

The governor stressed that the appointees should recognize themselves as servants of the people and work closely with district heads, traditional rulers, and ward heads to safeguard lives and properties in their respective communities. He commended their merit-based appointments, cautioning them to be mindful of their responsibilities and engage security agencies within their domains.

"Nobody bribed his way to be given this appointment, you all got it on merit. You were given this responsibility based on your past recognition. You should fear God that you have responsibilities to your communities and to our party that has enshrined the culture of work, community engagement, stakeholding hence you must know that you are servants to the people, you must be able to engage the security agencies in your domain," Governor Mohammed said.

The governor highlighted the importance of consultation with deputies and upcoming care-taker councilors who would assist in filling any gaps. He affirmed their capabilities and encouraged them to abide by their oath of allegiance, showing respect to all individuals. The governor also emphasized the need for accountable management of resources, considering the challenging times, and urged the chairmen to distribute palliatives judiciously.

"We have bought into the federal government initiative to remove the subsidy because we believe that it was a waste and is not serving the common man. Though it is bringing a lot of pains, we are urging our organized labour to understand that this is for good," Governor Mohammed stated.

The governor expressed concern about security challenges in certain local government areas of the state and vowed to deal decisively with anyone compromising security. He concluded by congratulating the appointees on their new roles and urging them to lead with dignity, eschew corruption, and leave legacies and landmarks at the end of their tenures.

The swearing-in of the local government caretaker committee chairmen signals a renewed focus on accountability and transparency in the governance of Bauchi State. It sets the tone for collaborative efforts among different stakeholders to ensure the welfare and safety of communities.
