Oyo State Government Promotes Iyake International Festival to Boost Tourism
The Alado of Ado Awaye kingdom, Oba Rev. Ademola Olugbile Folakanmi, highlights the commitment of the Oyo State government to promote the Iyake International Festival into an international tourism standard. The event aims to showcase the natural wonders of Ado-Awaye, including the only natural suspended lake in the world. The government plans to expand the festival's scope to neighboring countries and attract investments through Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangements.

Iyake International Festival, taking place in Ado-Awaye, Oyo State, is set to become a foremost brand of tourism in Nigeria, Africa, and even beyond. The festival, organized by the Oyo State government, aims to highlight the remarkable natural endowments of Ado mountain, particularly the Iyake lake, which is the only natural suspended lake in the world.

The 2023 edition of the Iyake International Festival holds immense significance as the planning committee looks to extend its reach to neighboring countries such as Benin Republic, Togo, Ghana, and Cote d'Ivoire. By attracting tourists from these countries, the festival will boost international recognition for Ado-Awaye and Oyo State as a whole.

The Iyake suspended lake, with its healing powers, has recently been rated as the third wonder of Nigeria. Nestled amidst breathtaking natural surroundings, the lake's grandeur, myths, and mysteries make it a popular tourist attraction. With its supposed bottomless depths that no one has ever explored and returned, the lake has an air of mystique that captures the imagination.

Recognizing the potential economic benefits, Oba Rev. Ademola Olugbile Folakanmi urges the Oyo State government to harness the unique charm of the Iyake lake. Expanding the tourism infrastructure in Ado-Awaye through robust Public Private Partnership arrangements will not only generate revenue and foreign exchange earnings but also attract local and foreign investors. Additionally, this development will contribute to the welfare of the local community.

Iyake Suspended Lake presents a haven for nature enthusiasts, offering opportunities for camping, hiking, cultural experiences, wildlife encounters, mountaineering, mountain climbing competitions, and nature photography. Its further development and effective management have the potential to contribute significantly to the state's Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

Aligned with his Omituntun 2:0 Agenda, Governor Seyi Makinde aims to identify five festivals within the five zones of Oyo State to adopt as state projected shows and cultural days. By putting the Iyake International Festival at the forefront, Ado-Awaye will establish itself as a premier travel destination, promoting the unique cultural heritage of Oyo State, Nigeria, and the African continent.

Appreciating the governor's efforts, Oba Rev. Ademola Olugbile Folakanmi expresses gratitude for the separation of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism from the Ministry of Information. This proactive step signifies a new era of tourism development in the state.

Other individuals and organizations hailed for their contributions include the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatunbosun, Honorable Jelili Oyinloye, the Executive Chairman of Iwajowa local government, Chief Tunde Odunlade, Ambassador Wale Ojo Lanre, Oba Awurela of Brazil, and various partners and supporters of culture and tourism.

Joining the conversation, Hon Jelili Oyinloye, the Executive Chairman of Iwajowa local government, emphasizes the positive impact the Iyake International Festival will have on the economic development of Oyo State. The collaboration between the local government and the state government will ensure the success of the festival's third edition.

Fully utilizing the potential of the Iyake Lake will not only transform it into a prominent tourist center but also create employment opportunities for the people of Oke-Ogun and Oyo State in general. The festival's success will align with the vision of positioning Ado-Awaye as a top destination for tourists, thereby promoting sustainable tourism across the state and beyond.
