Rehabilitation of 135 Roads Begins in Abuja

In a bid to revamp the infrastructure of Nigeria's capital city, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has flagged off the rehabilitation of 135 roads in Abuja. This monumental project will cover several districts, including Garki, Gwarimpa, Wuse, and Maitama. It is part of the government's "Renewed Hope Agenda" aimed at enhancing the quality of life for the residents of the city.

The first phase of the project will focus on roads within Garki District, Gwarimpa District, Wuse District, and Maitama District. The roads selected for rehabilitation have been carefully chosen based on their level of deterioration and significance to the community.

Contractors involved in the project have been given a six-month deadline to complete the rehabilitation works. This is an ambitious timeframe that will require efficient planning, coordination, and execution. However, with the determination and commitment of all parties involved, it is expected that the project will be completed on schedule.

The rehabilitation works will not only improve the condition of the roads but also enhance the overall connectivity and accessibility of the city. Specific roads slated for rehabilitation in Garki District include Ladoke Akintola Boulevard and Strabag Road in Gwarimpa Life-Camp. In Maitama, the focus will be on N16 Road (Maitama Roundabout), N11/B4 (Ahmadu Bello Way/This Day Dome Junction), and the junction between Ring Road 1 and Tafawa Balewa Way Area 3-Garki. Other areas where roads will be rehabilitated include Zone 5, Zone 6, and Zone 7.

The launch of this project also comes with an announcement from the minister regarding the alleged plan to demolish 6,000 illegal buildings across 30 areas in Abuja. Nyesom Wike has dismissed these claims as purely misleading and mischievous. The focus is entirely on rehabilitating the existing road network and improving the city's infrastructure.
