The Kano State government has taken a strict stance against negligence in the education sector. In a recent move, two principals from French Bilingual College and Chinese Bilingual College in Kwankwaso, Madobi Local Government Area, were suspended for failing to perform their duties during a routine inspection.
The inspection team, led by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Hajiya Kubra Imam, discovered that the principals were nowhere to be found when the team visited to monitor the commencement of the 2023/2024 first term School Session. To make matters worse, the students at the two colleges were not served food the previous night and their breakfast was also not ready by the time of the visit.
The act of negligence displayed by the principals raised serious concerns from the Commissioner for Education, Umar Haruna. Expressing his disappointment, the Commissioner directed the suspended principals to hand over the affairs of their schools to the newly appointed interim principals, Umar Sabo and Isyaku Umar Abdullahi, respectively. The suspended principals have been requested to report to the Ministry pending further investigation.
Umar Doguwa, the Commissioner for Education, stressed the importance of providing quality education to the students of Kano State. He warned all school authorities against any actions that could undermine the efforts of the present administration in reviving the education sector.
While the negligence incident was a cause for concern, it is essential to acknowledge and commend the dedication and compliance of other principals in the state. The Principal of Government Girls College (WTC) Kano Kofar Famfo and the Principal of Government Girls Secondary School Kwankwaso ensured that all necessary arrangements were made for the smooth commencement of the 2023/2024 Academic Session.
Students at both schools were impressed with the level of care and attention devoted to their needs. The principals' efforts in creating a conducive learning environment were highly appreciated. Such commitment and diligence should serve as a benchmark for all educational institutions in the state.
The suspension of the two principals serves as a warning to other school authorities about the consequences of negligence. The Kano State government is determined to prioritize education and expects all stakeholders to play their part in providing the best learning experience for students.
In conclusion, incidents of negligence, such as the absence of principals during inspections, undermine the goals of the education sector. This suspension should serve as a wake-up call for all school administrators to fulfill their responsibilities diligently and ensure the well-being of their students.
