Gunmen Kill Housewife, Injure Husband in Taraba State In Kidnapping Attempt
Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers targeted a home in the Mile 6 area of Jalingo, Taraba State, resulting in the death of a housewife and injury to her husband. The incident adds to the rising crime rate in the area, raising concerns among residents. The Taraba Police Command is currently investigating the incident and urging the public to provide any information that may help apprehend the criminals involved.

JALINGO, Nigeria - Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers targeted a home in the Mile 6 area of Jalingo, Taraba State, in the early hours of Sunday, resulting in a tragic loss of life and highlighting the growing concerns over the rising crime rate in the area.

The incident occurred when the assailants entered the residence of Mr. Balanko Alex Gamalia with the intent to abduct him and his wife. During the attempt, shots were fired, and both Mr. and Mrs. Gamalia were hit. Tragically, Mrs. Gamalia lost her life at the scene, while Mr. Gamalia currently remains in the hospital, fighting for his recovery.

In addition to this heartbreaking incident, two more individuals, including another woman, were abducted from the same household, leaving the community reeling in shock.

Usman Abdullahi, Spokesman for the Taraba Police Command, confirmed the incident and assured the public that the police are actively working on the case. "Police are on the trail of the kidnappers," Abdullahi stated during a telephone interview on Sunday, September 10, 2023. He strongly urged the public to come forward with any information that may lead to the apprehension of those responsible for this heinous act.

However, the incident serves as yet another grim marker in what residents describe as a disturbing uptick in criminal activity within Taraba State. Just last week, victims of previous kidnappings were forced to pay a hefty ransom totaling N7 million to secure their freedom.

One of the victims, recounting the harrowing experience, described being chained and treated as slaves by their captors. The deteriorating security situation is causing immense fear and anxiety among residents, prompting calls for both the government and security agencies to take more effective measures in restoring law and order.

"The situation is becoming unbearable; we can't continue to live in fear," said Aisha Yusuf, a resident of Jalingo, echoing the sentiments of many others who demand immediate action. While the state government is yet to issue a statement, this incident is likely to intensify public pressure on authorities to address the growing issue of kidnapping and other forms of crime.

As the community mourns the loss of Mrs. Gamalia and waits for justice, questions are being raised regarding the effectiveness of current security measures in Taraba State and the urgent need for the authorities to prioritize the deteriorating situation.

For now, the Taraba Police Command continues its investigation and manhunt, hoping that the cooperation of the public will eventually lead to the arrest and prosecution of the criminals involved. However, the incident serves as a stark reminder that urgent action is required to restore peace and security to the residents of Taraba State.
