The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, has reiterated the commitment of the FCT Administration to the development of satellite towns in the region. Speaking at the inauguration of Mandate Secretaries for the FCT Administration, Wike emphasized the importance of extending progress and development beyond the city center, ensuring that all areas of the FCT experience prosperity and well-being.

In his address, Wike urged the newly inaugurated Mandate Secretaries to address issues affecting the delivery of services in the FCT Administration, with a particular emphasis on the procurement process. He stressed the significance of transparency, efficiency, and accountability becoming the cornerstones of the administration's operations.

Wike acknowledged the crucial role played by the Mandate Secretaries in translating the administration's vision into tangible actions that will shape the future of the FCT. He highlighted the responsibility to develop innovative ways to enhance Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), crucial for financing ambitious infrastructural projects and initiatives.

One of the major challenges emphasized by Wike was the need to comprehensively address the public transportation system in the FCT. He underlined that no modern city can function effectively without a reliable and comprehensive transportation network. The FCT Administration is committed to establishing an integrated and efficient transport network that meets the needs of its residents.

Wike also stressed the importance of maintaining clean surroundings and the collective responsibility of both the government and the citizens in achieving this. He emphasized the need for collaboration to ensure a cleaner and greener FCT and pledged to collaborate closely with law enforcement agencies and communities to ensure a safe and secure environment for all.

The minister further reiterated the FCT Administration's commitment to uplift the education, agriculture, and health sectors to world-class standards. He acknowledged the foundation that a well-educated and healthy population builds for a prosperous city and emphasized the need to provide citizens with access to quality education, healthcare, and agricultural opportunities.

Recognizing the potential of the tourism sector for economic growth and job creation, Wike emphasized the administration's focus on promoting and developing the unique cultural and natural assets of the FCT. Through such initiatives, the FCT aims to attract both local and international visitors, thereby boosting the economy.

Wike concluded his address by stating that all infractions on the Abuja master plan would be dealt with decisively. Non-compliant buildings would face appropriate measures, including removal and penalties. The minister also highlighted the need to closely examine and strengthen relevant laws to prevent offenders from exploiting loopholes to the detriment of the FCT Administration and its people.
