Six Arrested in Connection with Killing of Divisional Police Officer in Rivers State
Six individuals have been arrested in connection with the killing of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ahoada East Council, Rivers State, Nigeria. The DPO was ambushed and murdered by suspected members of the Iceland cult group. The arrests were made following a police operation in the community, and the suspects are currently undergoing interrogation. Six individuals have been arrested in connection with the killing of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ahoada East Council, Rivers State, Nigeria. The DPO, SP Bako Angbashim, was ambushed and brutally murdered on September 8, 2023, in the Odumude Forest by suspected members of the Iceland cult group.

The arrests were carried out as a result of an operation conducted by the Rivers State Police Command, led by the Commissioner of Police, CP Nwonyi Emeka, and his management team. The operation aimed to recover the deceased DPO's body and assess the situation in Odumude Community, Ahoada East LGA.

According to the statement released by the Rivers State Police Command Spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the suspects were apprehended within the community. The police confiscated a locally crafted pistol and various charms from the arrested individuals, believed to be associated with their alleged involvement in the killing.

The six suspects and the seized items are currently under police custody and are undergoing interrogation at the State CID in Port Harcourt.

In response to the incident, the community has been evacuated by its residents, with fears of further violence and reprisal attacks from the cult group.

The Rivers State Police Command has also appointed a new DPO, SP Zuokumor Richard, to take charge of the division. SP Richard will lead a team comprising half a unit from Mopol 48, one-third unit from Mopol 19, 56, and various tactical teams.

SP Richard's primary tasks include thoroughly searching the area for the perpetrators behind the killing, recovering the DPO's body, and locating any weapons used in the operation. The police operation and investigation will continue until the culprits are brought to justice.

The murder of SP Bako Angbashim has raised significant concerns about safety and the presence of cult groups in Rivers State. Residents and local authorities are demanding intensified efforts to curb crime and ensure the perpetrators face the full weight of the law.

The Rivers State Police Command is appealing to the public for any information that may assist in their ongoing investigation. The police assure the public that all leads will be handled confidentially.
