Calls for Sack and Arrest of Amnesty Programme Administrator for Alleged Partisanship
The Bayelsa State All Progressives Congress (APC) Elders Council has demanded the immediate removal and detention of Major Gen. Barry Ndiomu, the interim administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme. The council accuses Ndiomu of supporting the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and Governor Douye Diri in Bayelsa State, neglecting his primary duty of addressing the Niger Delta's delicate security concerns. They further call for an investigation into the leakages of government communications and condemn turning the amnesty program into a political empowerment scheme.

In a move that has sparked controversy and raised concerns over the neutrality of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, the Bayelsa State All Progressives Congress (APC) Elders Council has made a strong call for the immediate sacking and subsequent arrest of the programme's interim administrator, Major Gen. Barry Ndiomu.

The council, headed by Chief Maxwell Adomokeme, accuses Major Gen. Ndiomu of actively supporting the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State, instead of focusing on the crucial security concerns in the Niger Delta. They question his commitment to the primary job description of the Amnesty Programme, which is to maintain peace and promote development in the region.

"We wonder also why confidential mail communication between his office and the office of the Secretary to the Government of The Federation would be deliberately leaked and made the subject of pedestrian deliberations," reads the statement from the Bayelsa State APC Elders Council.

The council members express their concern not only about Ndiomu's alleged ties to the PDP but also about his apparent preference for empowering PDP members through the Amnesty Programme, as evident in recent activities. They also highlight his support for Atiku Abubakar during the last presidential elections, which they find distressing.

"The Amnesty office is fundamentally meant to keep peace in the Niger Delta Region and facilitate its development. However, it appears that Major Gen. Ndiomu has turned it into a mere empowerment scheme for the People's Democratic Party," the statement continues.

Beyond the call for Ndiomu's dismissal and subsequent arrest, the Bayelsa State APC Elders Council emphasizes the need for the Department of State Security to investigate the leakages of communication between government agencies. They view such acts as worrisome and a breach of national security.

The statement concludes with the council expressing gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his significant achievements and innovative approaches to progress. They believe that the nation is on a path towards sustained progress under his leadership.

While Major Gen. Ndiomu's media aide, Freston Akpor, was contacted for a statement, he mentioned being away on travel and unable to respond at the time.
