Abuja Municipal Area Council Commences Park and Pay Policy to Combat Car Theft
The Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) has announced the implementation of the Park and Pay policy in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) of Abuja, aiming to enhance security and generate revenue. Motorists will be charged N100 per hour in designated areas. The FCT Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has retracted its previous demand notices and apologized to AMAC for the error.

Abuja, Nigeria - The Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) has taken a significant step to safeguard against car theft and enhance revenue generation with the introduction of the Park and Pay policy in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Honorable Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, Chairman of AMAC, announced the commencement of this policy during a press briefing held at the council secretariat. Maikalangu highlighted the importance of balancing revenue generation and public interest.

The Park and Pay policy aims to regulate parking within the city center, including areas such as Asokoro, Maitama, Federal Secretariat, Wuse, and Garki districts. Motorists utilizing designated parking zones will be required to pay a fee of N100 per hour to ensure compliance and deter unauthorized parking.

Maikalangu emphasized the significance of this policy in curbing car theft and other related vices prevalent in the FCT. By implementing the Park and Pay system, the council aims to reduce the incidence of unauthorized parking and provide a safer environment for vehicle owners.

Furthermore, the development comes with additional benefits for the council. The generated revenue from the Park and Pay policy will be instrumental in funding various developmental projects within AMAC, contributing to the overall growth and improvement of the region.

In a related development, the FCT Internal Revenue Service (IRS) issued apologies to AMAC and other affected organizations within the area for issuing demand notices. The IRS acknowledged the errors and retracted its previous statement, clarifying that the demand notices were unintentional.

During the engagement with the media, the supervisory councilor for special duties, Mr. Emmanuel Inyang, expressed AMAC's acceptance of the IRS apology and reiterated the need for a collaborative approach between the council and the IRS for effective revenue generation.

With the retraction of the demand notices, AMAC can focus on implementing the Park and Pay policy without any legal hindrances or conflicts. The council can now concentrate on educating the public about the new regulations, ensuring motorists are aware of the designated parking areas and the associated charges.

Parking has long been a challenge in the FCT, with many areas facing problems of unauthorized parking, congested streets, and car theft. The introduction of the Park and Pay policy indicates a proactive approach by AMAC to address these issues by implementing a structured parking system.

The AMAC's Park and Pay policy is set to provide a safer and organized parking environment in the FCT, while also contributing to the council's revenue generation efforts. Motorists and residents can look forward to a more secure and regulated parking experience in the designated areas within the city center.

The council remains committed to its goal of creating a harmonious and prosperous environment for residents and businesses within the Abuja Municipal Area Council.
