Lamido of Adamawa Commends NCC's Consumer Protection Initiatives
The Lamido of Adamawa, Dr. Muhammadu Mustapha, has praised the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) for its efforts in safeguarding the rights of telecom consumers. He commended the recent Village Square Dialogue (VSD) held in Yola, Adamawa State, which allowed consumers to directly interact with the Commission. The Lamido also urged the NCC to explore avenues for reducing telecom costs and improving service availability across Nigeria.

The Lamido of Adamawa, Dr. Muhammadu Mustapha, has expressed his admiration for the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) for implementing various initiatives aimed at protecting telecom consumers. One of these initiatives, the Village Square Dialogue (VSD), was recently held in Yola, Adamawa State, allowing consumers to engage directly with the regulatory body.

Representing Lamido Adamawa at the Consumer Conversation programme, Prof. Abubakar Tahir, applauded the NCC for prioritizing consumer information and education. He acknowledged the commendable efforts made by the Commission in bringing this constructive dialogue to the people of Adamawa. Prof. Tahir also recommended that the NCC explore additional strategies to reduce the cost of telecom services and ensure their availability in remote areas of the country.

Alkasim Umar, the Director of Consumer Affairs, who represented the Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, emphasized the commitment of the NCC to protect and educate consumers while providing an enabling environment for service providers. He highlighted the harmonized shortcodes recently introduced by the Commission, which offer uniform access to consumer services across all networks.

Consumers were reminded of the NCC Toll-Free Number (622), which serves as a platform to report service-related issues to the Commission. Umar also mentioned the 112 Emergency Number, ensuring assistance during emergencies, as well as the Do-Not-Disturb (DND) 2442 Short Code, allowing users to block unsolicited messages.

Umar emphasized the significance of information and education in empowering telecom consumers. According to him, educating consumers clarifies concerns, informs them of their rights and privileges, and sets their expectations regarding telecom services in the country. He applauded the NCC for organizing events, such as the Village Square Dialogue, to increase consumer awareness and engagement.

The Lamido of Adamawa's commendation serves as an endorsement of the NCC's efforts to protect consumer rights in the rapidly evolving digital landscape. The NCC's focus on consumer education and enlightenment enables individuals and businesses to make informed decisions and safeguards them against unfair practices by service providers.

As the world becomes increasingly dependent on telecommunications services, empowering consumers through knowledge and enlightenment becomes even more essential. The NCC's dedication to consumer protection, as mandated by the Nigerian Communications Act (NCA) 2003, ensures that consumers are well-informed and protected.

The Lamido of Adamawa's recommendation for the NCC to explore further cost reduction measures and improve telecom service availability in all communities across Nigeria highlights the need for continuous improvement. By addressing these concerns, the NCC can reinforce its role as a catalyst for positive change in the telecom sector.

In conclusion, the commendation from the Lamido of Adamawa reflects the success of the NCC's consumer protection initiatives. Through events like the Village Square Dialogue, the NCC continues to foster a transparent and accountable telecom industry that prioritizes the interests of consumers.
