Minister warns contractors against contract variations for road rehabilitation in Abuja
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has warned contractors handling the rehabilitation of 135 roads in Abuja against contract variations. Wike emphasized that variations would not be accepted in the projects and assured the contractors of timely payment to facilitate completion within the agreed timeframe.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has issued a stern warning to contractors engaged in the rehabilitation of 135 roads in Abuja. During the inauguration of the projects on Monday, Wike emphasized that contract variations would not be tolerated, urging contractors to complete the task within the projected six-month timeline.

Speaking to the contractors, Wike warned against any attempts to introduce engineering services variations into the project, declaring that it would not work. He assured the contractors that all payments would be promptly made, leaving no room for debt.

Wike specifically addressed the issue of variations, emphasizing that any attempts to manipulate costs or extend the timeline of the project through additional demands would not be entertained. He assured the contractors that the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) had sufficient funds to cover their expenses and urged them to focus on delivering quality work on time.

The Minister also cautioned the permanent secretary of the FCT Administration, Mr. Olusade Adesola, not to forward any papers for reconsideration or raise unanticipated issues. He stated that all aspects of the project had been carefully considered and anticipated, leaving no room for modifications or delays.

While calling on residents to support the contractors in their task, Wike acknowledged that development often comes with temporary inconveniences. He appealed to traditional rulers to mobilize their communities, especially the youth, to collaborate with the contractors and ensure timely project completion.

The Minister of State for FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, commended the achievements of the FCT Administration in transforming the capital city within a short period since Wike assumed office. She highlighted the successful resolution of streetlight issues and ongoing efforts to address sanitation challenges. Mahmoud expressed optimism that the road infrastructure rehabilitation would significantly benefit the residents.

The warning issued by Minister Wike signals the FCTA's commitment to curbing wasteful practices and ensuring timely completion of crucial infrastructure projects. By prioritizing adherence to agreed timelines and cost estimates, the FCTA aims to foster efficiency and accountability in public works projects, ultimately enhancing the living conditions and mobility of residents in Abuja.

As the road rehabilitation projects progress, it is essential for the contractors and stakeholders to maintain open lines of communication, promptly address any challenges that may arise, and ensure the highest standards of quality and safety are upheld.
