Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has announced that the International Convention Centre (ICC) in the state capital, Awka, will be named after his immediate predecessor, Willie Obiano. This decision reflects Soludo's desire to honour and celebrate the contributions of Anambra leaders who have dedicated themselves to the development of the state.
Soludo, speaking at the maiden Anambra Investment Summit, emphasized that Anambra State celebrates hard work and entrepreneurship rather than criminality. He intends to recognize the efforts of individuals who have significantly impacted the state's development by naming major institutions after them.
The governor stated, "We will also find other institutions to name after other past governors, like Chief Emeka Ezeife, Dr. Chinwoke Mbadinuju, Dr. Chris Ngige, and Peter Obi."
This gesture of naming institutions after former leaders is aimed at acknowledging their remarkable contributions to the state. Soludo believes that it is crucial to honor and celebrate individuals who have created jobs and wealth in Anambra through their investments.
He mentioned that the ICC and the International Cargo Airport, both legacy projects of his predecessor, were a testament to the dedication and achievements of Willie Obiano. Soludo expressed his gratitude and suggested naming the ICC after Obiano, as a way of recognizing his immense contributions.
Furthermore, Soludo highlighted his vision to transform Anambra State from a departure land to a destination point. The Anambra Investment Summit provides an opportunity to attract potential investors, sign MOUs, and seal deals that will further boost the state's development.
"We're very deliberate and intentional about it. We'll have plans to reward investors making an impact in the state. We'll de-risk your investment. We're not just here to talk but sealing deals and signing MOUs," Soludo emphasized.
The governor assured participants that the summit would provide valuable insights and networking opportunities for the business community, not just in Nigeria but also beyond its borders.
In conclusion, Governor Soludo's decision to name the ICC after Willie Obiano and other institutions after former governors demonstrates the state's commitment to celebrating hard work and entrepreneurship. By recognizing those who have contributed significantly to Anambra's development, the government aims to foster a culture that values and rewards investments and job creation.
