Emboldened Nnamdi Kanu Rejects Begging for Release, Citing Disdain towards Late Igboland Elder
Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of IPOB, has made it clear that he will not beg for his release from the federal government, emphasizing it would be an insult to the memory of the late Pa Mbazulike Amechi. Kanu's stance comes after being cleared by Justice Binta Nyako of a Federal High Court in Abuja. The House of Representatives has also called for his immediate release, citing the need for peace in the southeast. Additionally, the five southeast governors have identified criminals as the culprits behind the region's insecurity, not Biafra agitators.

FCT, Abuja - Nnamdi Kanu, the embattled leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has expressed his firm decision not to beg the federal government for his release. Refusing to seek his freedom comes after being cleared by Justice Binta Nyako of a Federal High Court in Abuja.

In a letter dated August 25, 2023, and signed by Kanu's lead counsel, Mike Ozekhome, SAN, the IPOB leader stressed that pleading for his release at this stage would disrespect the memory of the late Pa Mbazulike Amechi. Kanu highlighted that the elder had made repeated appeals to the federal government, but his dying wish was disregarded.

Notably, Kanu's pronouncement aligns with the Court of Appeal's decision, which remains steadfast to date. It solidifies his belief that there is no need for him to implore the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) to secure his freedom.

On a related note, the House of Representatives has called upon President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently release the IPOB leader. The demand emerged from the House of Reps ad hoc committee created to address kidnapping, assassinations, and banditry in Isiukwuato and Umunnochi local councils of Abia state.

Chairman of the committee, Obinna Aguocha, emphasized that releasing Nnamdi Kanu is vital for restoring peace in the southeast. As tensions continue to escalate, addressing the situation promptly becomes imperative.

The release plea coincides with the statement issued by the five southeast governors. They affirmed that the perpetrators of the region's insecurity are criminals, not Biafra agitators. The governors urged that these criminals, along with their sponsors, be dealt with according to the law.

The current state of affairs in Igboland demands immediate attention. As the calls for Nnamdi Kanu's release grow louder, the issue of insecurity remains a pressing concern. It is crucial that the government takes effective measures to ensure peace and safeguard the well-being of the people.

While Nnamdi Kanu refuses to beg for his freedom, his steadfastness underscores his commitment to the cause. As the situation unfolds, the spotlight remains on the federal government's response and the actions it takes to address the concerns of the southeast region.
