Family Seeks Justice Over Alleged Torture of Employee at Pharmaceutical Company
The family of a deceased employee, Omokinyeme, is seeking justice over his alleged torture at a pharmaceutical company. Omokinyeme was taken to a police station by his employers, EXUS Pharmaceutical Nigeria Ltd, where he was reportedly beaten and tortured before his death. The family is demanding answers and believes that the company should have sought alternative solutions before involving the police. The case is currently under investigation, and an autopsy is being awaited to determine the cause of death.

The family of Aboye Okubo is demanding justice over the alleged torture and subsequent death of their son, Omokinyeme, who was an employee of EXUS Pharmaceutical Nigeria Ltd. The incident occurred at the police station along the Ejinrin Road, Ketu, in Lagos State. The family believes that Omokinyeme was subjected to torture at the police station, where he was taken by his employers.

Omokinyeme, a graduate of Microbiology from the University of Port Harcourt, had been employed by EXUS Pharmaceutical in 2019 as a sales representative in their Abeokuta branch. On July 18, 2023, he was summoned by the company for an auditing exercise following alleged shortages in the proceeds from sales.

The family claims that Omokinyeme explained that the shortages were due to customers who had not paid for pharmaceutical products received on credit. He provided records to support this explanation but was reportedly not successful in satisfying the company's management.

As a result, Omokinyeme was arrested and taken to the police station in Ketu, Lagos, in an attempt to coerce him into confessing and recovering the alleged shortage. The family alleges that he was beaten and tortured, leading to his death on July 20, 2023.

Mr. Okubo, Omokinyeme's father, expressed his dismay at the involvement of the police, considering that his son had not fled his duty post and was always responsive to the company's summons. He also highlighted that the company had been deducting an undisclosed sum of money from Omokinyeme's salary prior to the incident.

The family is seeking justice for Omokinyeme's death and questions why the company did not explore alternative solutions before involving the police. They emphasize that their son had a guarantor who could have been relied upon for debt recovery if theft allegations were substantiated.

In response to the allegations, Pharmacist Osakwe from EXUS Pharmaceutical stated that the case is currently under investigation by the police. The company is also awaiting the result of an autopsy to determine the cause of Omokinyeme's demise.

Justice must prevail in this case. The circumstances surrounding Omokinyeme's death are deeply troubling, and it is crucial that a thorough and transparent investigation takes place. The family deserves answers, and if any wrongdoing is found, those responsible must be held accountable.
