The Ogun State Government has swiftly responded to the criticism from the Obong of Calabar, His Royal Majesty, Edidem Abasi, concerning the poor condition of the Abeokuta-Ibadan road. In a statement signed by the Special Adviser on Works, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, the state government clarified that the road in question falls under federal jurisdiction.
According to the statement, the rehabilitation of the Abeokuta-Ibadan road has been awarded to Kopek Nigeria Ltd, which has already commenced work from the Ibadan end. The state government also emphasized its commitment to ensuring the maintenance and improvement of roads in Ogun State, regardless of their ownership status.
Engr. Akinsanya further highlighted the extensive efforts made by the Dapo Abiodun administration, with over 400 roads rehabilitated across the state. He also acknowledged that the Ogun State government has undertaken repairs on several federal roads, awaiting reimbursement from the Federal Government.
While acknowledging the Obong of Calabar's concern, the statement stressed that it is the responsibility of the Federal Government to address the state of federal roads. The Ogun State government urged the traditional ruler to seek clarification and make inquiries on issues before directing grievances at the wrong authority.
The statement also urged the Obong of Calabar to advocate for the timely release of funds to Kopek Nigeria Ltd for the rehabilitation work on the Abeokuta-Ibadan road.
In conclusion, the Ogun State Government emphasized its dedication to road development in the state and called on stakeholders, including traditional rulers, to collaborate in seeking appropriate channels for addressing road infrastructure challenges.
