The Ogun State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme, Mr. Chris Jimba, has advised corps members deployed to the state to refrain from involving themselves in the local politics of their host communities. His warning came during the closing ceremony of the 2023 Batch B Stream II orientation course for corps members.

Mr. Jimba emphasized the importance of accepting their posting in good faith and urged the corps members to diligently perform their duties, guided by the provisions of the NYSC Act and workplace rules and regulations. Furthermore, he encouraged them to undertake personal and group Community Development Service (CDS) projects that would contribute to uplifting the living standards of their host communities.

The Coordinator also appealed to employers to warmly receive corps members posted to them, ensuring their welfare and acting as mentors to help them develop their full potential. He lauded the corps members' active participation in the entrepreneurial training conducted at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, undertaken as part of the NYSC Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program.

In his address, Mr. Jimba urged the corps members to build on the skills acquired during the camp by taking advantage of opportunities for post-camp training, as this would empower them for self-reliance. He assured them of the scheme's efforts to provide start-up loans through collaborations with financial institutions and other stakeholders, facilitating the realization of their business dreams.

Safety and security were also key points in Mr. Jimba's speech. He cautioned corps members to be vigilant and emphasized that safety is everyone's responsibility. He advised them to avoid activities that could endanger their lives, such as staying out late, attending night parties, visiting dangerous places, and accepting rides or gifts from strangers.

The Coordinator assured the corps members that the NYSC would continue to prioritize their security and welfare. He mentioned ongoing coordination with security agencies and other stakeholders to ensure a safe and fulfilling service year.

Mr. Jimba expressed gratitude to Governor Dapo Abiodun for his consistent support of the NYSC scheme in the state. He also recognized the contributions of local government councils, security agencies, traditional rulers, corps employers, and other stakeholders in the state.

The 2023 Batch B Stream II orientation course in Ogun State commenced on August 16th, hosting a total of 1,872 corps members, including 502 males, 998 females from Ogun State, and 3 males and 371 females who were dislodged from Lagos State due to overcrowding.
