The upcoming governorship poll in Imo state scheduled for November 11, has received a major boost as Anglican faithful in the state have thrown their weight behind Governor Uzodimma. This comes on the heels of a recent press conference held in Bauchi by the North East Development Agenda (NEDA), where NEDA Chairman, Alhaji Salihu Magaji, addressed the media.
In the press conference, Alhaji Salihu Magaji stated that the recent reappointment of North East Development Commission (NEDC) Board Members followed due process as stipulated in the gazetted laws of the commission. He further emphasized that the reappointment of Major General Paul Tarfa, Goni Mohammed Alkali, and other executive directors was in line with the existing laws governing the commission.
According to Alhaji Salihu Magaji, the hue and cry from certain quarters regarding the reappointment of the NEDC Board Members was unnecessary and mischievous. He stated that their appointment was meritorious and in consonance with the laws of the commission. He also clarified that there is no law prohibiting the reappointment of board members to the same position.
The support from the Anglicans is seen as a significant boost for Governor Uzodimma's re-election bid. The Anglican faithful, who form a considerable part of the electorate in Imo state, have expressed confidence in Uzodimma's leadership and his commitment to the progress of the state.
Speaking at the press conference, Alhaji Salihu Magaji criticized those he described as enemies of the commission and the North East region who are seeking to derail the good intentions of President Bola Ahmad Tinubu. He urged the people of the North East to support the leadership of Goni Mohammed Alkali and the efforts of the NEDC in addressing the challenges facing the region.
As an interventionist agency, the NEDC has been actively working to provide succor and alleviate the sufferings of the people in the North East. Following their appointment, the NEDC mobilized funds amounting to 15 billion naira for palliatives to the six North Eastern states, demonstrating their commitment to the welfare of the people.
With the support of the Anglican faithful and the assurance of the NEDC's steady progress and unwavering focus on the needs of the North East, Governor Uzodimma is poised to secure a strong mandate in the upcoming governorship poll. His continued leadership and dedication to the development of Imo state are expected to be further reinforced by the backing of influential groups such as the Anglicans.
The electoral battle in Imo state is heating up, and with the support of key stakeholders, Governor Uzodimma is strengthening his position as he seeks re-election. As November 11 approaches, all eyes will be on Imo state to witness the outcome of what promises to be a fiercely contested governorship poll.
