The Ogun State Government has responded to recent comments made by the Obong of Calabar, His Eminence, Edidem Abasi, regarding the deplorable state of the Abeokuta-Ibadan road. The government clarified that the road in question is under the jurisdiction of the federal government and not within its purview.
In a statement released by the Special Adviser on Works, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, the government emphasized its commitment to improving road infrastructure across the state, irrespective of ownership status. According to Akinsanya, the Dapo Abiodun administration in Ogun State has taken significant steps to rehabilitate over 400 roads, including federal, state, and local roads.
Addressing the concerns raised by the Obong of Calabar, Akinsanya mentioned that the contract for the rehabilitation of the Abeokuta-Ibadan road had already been awarded to Kopek Nigeria Ltd., which had commenced work from the Ibadan end. He further explained that the state government had initially started construction on the road from Adatan in Abeokuta but was directed by the Federal Government to halt construction at Moore Junction, as Kopek Nigeria Ltd. was assigned to take over.
The statement also highlighted the challenges faced by the state government in obtaining refunds from the federal government for the expenses incurred on federal roads. Despite this, the Ogun State government has shown dedication to repairing and maintaining various federal roads, including the Ijebu-Ode-Mojoda-Epe, Lafenwa-Rounda, Atan-Lusada-Agbara, and Sango Ota-Abeokuta roads.
While acknowledging the concerns expressed by the Obong of Calabar, the statement urged revered traditional rulers and individuals to seek proper clarifications and conduct thorough investigations before directing their grievances towards the appropriate authorities. It emphasized that the responsibility for the Abeokuta-Ibadan road lies with the federal government, and the state government remains focused on its commitment to enhancing infrastructure across the state.
In conclusion, the Ogun State Government aims to continue providing quality road infrastructure in alignment with Governor Dapo Abiodun's ISEYA agenda. The state government's efforts to repair and rehabilitate numerous roads, regardless of ownership, demonstrate its commitment to the well-being and convenience of the residents.
