Lagos State Government to Complete Reconstruction of Old Ojo Road by End of Year
The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to completing the first phase of reconstruction of the Old Ojo Road in Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area by the end of this year. The road, which is currently a single carriageway, is being upgraded into a dual carriageway to ease transportation and improve connectivity in the area. The project is progressing steadily, with over 20% completion achieved so far.

The Lagos State Government has announced its dedication to completing the reconstruction of the Old Ojo Road in Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area by the end of this year. This project is part of the government's efforts to enhance infrastructure and improve transportation in the state.

The Old Ojo Road, located in the Oriade Area of Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area, is currently a 7,650m single carriageway with a dilapidated surface. It has an average width of 10m. To address the road's poor condition, the state government has undertaken the task of upgrading it into a dual carriageway, which will significantly improve its capacity and functionality.

Construction work on the Old Ojo Road began on August 24, 2022, following the award of the contract to Messrs. CCECC Nigeria Limited in July 2022. The road project is divided into two phases, with the first phase covering a length of 4,000 meters. This phase extends from Irede Road to Oluti Bus Stop and is expected to be completed within 18 months.

In addition to expanding the road, the project includes the construction of reinforced concrete drains with concrete cover as walkways, provision of median barrier, sand-cement stabilization, crushed stones as base course, and reinforced concrete rigid pavement. It also involves the acquisition of right-of-way and the relocation of public utilities such as water pipes, telecommunication facilities, electric poles, and transformers.

The reconstruction of the Old Ojo Road will not only enhance connectivity in the area but also serve as a strategic bypass for motorists traveling from the Kirikiri Area/Ajeromi Ifelodun to Ojo Local Government Area. The road runs parallel to the Lagos-Badagry Expressway from Mazamaza to Trade Fair.

Furthermore, the project is expected to improve the ease of transportation of goods and services to jetties along the corridor, stimulate industrial development, and boost the socio-economic growth of the Amuwo Odofin Division. It will also generate direct and indirect employment opportunities and increase property value in the surrounding area.

The first phase of the reconstruction project is currently progressing steadily, with over 20% completion already achieved. The contractor, Messrs. CCECC Nigeria Limited, is working diligently to meet the project's timeline and deliver a high-quality road.

This initiative by the Lagos State Government showcases its commitment to investing in infrastructure development and improving the state's transportation network. The reconstructed Old Ojo Road will undoubtedly contribute to the overall progress and well-being of the community, benefiting both residents and businesses alike.
