APC Crisis: Internal Dispute Persists Despite Resignation of Key Figures
The internal dispute within Nigeria's ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) continues despite the resignations of the former national chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, and national secretary, Iyiola Omisore. The crisis arises from disagreements over their replacements, with Lukman claiming that the endorsement of former Kano State governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, contravenes the party's constitution. Despite recent developments suggesting that President Tinubu's choices may prevail, the controversy threatens the party's integrity and unity.

The All Progressives Congress (APC), Nigeria's ruling party, is experiencing ongoing internal disputes even following the resignation of key figures Abdullahi Adamu and Iyiola Omisore. The crisis centers around disagreements regarding their replacements and the endorsement of former Kano State governor Abdullahi Ganduje.

The resignation of Adamu and Omisore came amid criticism from opposing party members, particularly Salihu Lukman, the vice chairman for the North-East. They were accused of running the party without adhering to constitutional provisions and working against President Tinubu's interests. Despite neither Adamu nor Omisore openly announcing their resignation, the party's Acting National Chairman, Abubakar Kyari, confirmed their departure.

While the Deputy National Chairman (North), Senator Abubakar Kyari, has been acting as chairman, the party stakeholders have resolved to select new leaders without disrupting the North/South zoning arrangement. Governor Ganduje's bid for the chairmanship has received significant endorsements, including from APC governors. However, Lukman argues that the endorsement process disregarded other critical stakeholders, such as the National Working Committee and other party leaders, challenging the fairness and unity of the party.

Lukman has criticized the Progressive Governors' Forum, led by Imo State governor Hope Uzodinma, for announcing Ganduje's endorsement without seeking input from all party stakeholders. He believes that the endorsement raises questions about justice, equity, and the establishment of constitutional order within the party. Lukman also raised concerns about the moral credibility of Ganduje assuming a leadership position in light of corruption allegations against him.

The APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, dismissed Lukman's opinion, stating that the party is committed to President Tinubu's Renewed Hope agenda. Morka reiterated that individual opinions do not represent the official position of the party and denied the existence of a crisis within the APC. He emphasized the party's unity and institutional maturity, highlighting the seamless succession process following the resignations of Adamu and Omisore.

Despite differing opinions within the party, Governor Ganduje has gained endorsements from APC state chairmen in the North-West and a coalition of North Central APC youth leaders and support groups. These groups back his bid for the national chairmanship position and argue that the Northern Central region has had its fair share of leadership positions in the party.

Amid the ongoing dispute, Salihu Lukman resigned from his position on the APC National Working Committee. In his resignation letter, Lukman cited a variance between the party's atmosphere and the vision of its founding fathers, expressing his hope for the party to retract from unjust and illegal actions.

The internal dispute within the APC reflects a struggle for power and influence. As the party navigates the selection of new leaders, it must focus on upholding constitutional order, promoting fairness, and ensuring unity. The resolution of these internal conflicts will ultimately impact the party's integrity and its ability to effectively govern Nigeria.
