FCT, Abuja - Daniel Bwala, a former aide to Atiku Abubakar, the flagbearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has told President Bola Tinubu to concentrate on governance rather than going on diplomatic trips to take pictures.
Speaking on AriseTv on Tuesday evening, September 12, the senior advocate argued that the 100 days in office of President Tinubu were uneventful and that he needed to pay more attention to nation-building than "photo ops" abroad.
Bwala's critique comes amid President Tinubu's recent international trips, where he has been seen posing for photographs with world leaders and attending high-profile events. While these trips may provide opportunities for diplomatic engagements and networking, Bwala believes that the core focus should be on implementing policies and initiatives that directly benefit the Nigerian people.
"President Tinubu cannot afford to spend his time jetting around the globe for photo ops when there are pressing issues at hand. The first 100 days of his administration have been lacking in substantial achievements," Bwala stated during the interview.
He further emphasized the need for President Tinubu to address critical issues such as security, infrastructure development, and the economy. According to Bwala, these issues require focused attention and should be the top priority of any government.
While diplomacy and international relations play an important role in shaping a nation's image and fostering bilateral relationships, Bwala stressed that the primary responsibility of a president is to his own citizens.
"It is time for President Tinubu to show tangible results and impact in the lives of Nigerians. The Nigerian people deserve a leader who is present and actively working towards their betterment," Bwala added.
Tinubu's supporters argue that his international visits showcase Nigeria's presence on the global stage and pave the way for potential foreign investments. However, Bwala believes that these short-term gains should not come at the expense of neglecting domestic matters.
"We need a leader who is focused on improving the lives of Nigerians, not just collecting photo souvenirs with world leaders. It is time for President Tinubu to redirect his efforts and prioritize the urgent needs of the nation," Bwala concluded.
As President Tinubu's term progresses, the scrutiny over his actions and priorities will undoubtedly continue. It remains to be seen whether his administration will heed the call to refocus its attention on governance and make significant strides in the development of Nigeria.
