Tension Mounts Ahead of Bayelsa State Governorship Election
Tension is building in the camp of Bayelsa state Governor, Douye Diri, ahead of the 11th of November governorship election. Several key figures, including a former Special Assistant and a retired Assistant Police Commissioner, have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), while the Bayelsa State Coordinator of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign has thrown his support behind the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governor Douye Diri. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has also announced the commencement of recruitment for Ad-Hoc staff for the upcoming off-cycle Governorship Elections in Bayelsa.

Tension is rising in the political landscape of Bayelsa state as the 11th of November governorship election draws near. The camp of Governor Douye Diri is experiencing a significant shakeup with key figures defecting to rival parties.

According to Vanguard, Doubara Benjamin, a serving Special Assistant to Gov Diri, and Apostle Bodmas Prince Kemepadei, who recently resigned as a Special Assistant New Media to the governor, have both decamped to the All Progressives Congress (APC). This development occurred during a rally tagged "Sagbama Wake Up!" organized by Yekini Nabena, a former National Publicity Secretary of APC.

The list of defectors includes Gideon Ogufe, a retired Assistant Police Commissioner, Akposeye Odoni, former Youth President from Okumbiri, Oweifabo Felix Ebikeme, former State Chairman of Change Advocacy Party (CAP), Dime Jonah, and Goodluck Dime, the Youth President of Agorogbene Community.

In response to the influx of defectors, the APC Deputy Governorship Candidate, Joshua Maciver, expressed confidence in the party's victory, stating, "In Bayelsa State, two months to the election, you already know who is winning. Let us not deceive ourselves, the APC has already won the election."

However, not all support is being lost for Governor Diri. The Bayelsa State Coordinator of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign, Comrade Morris Alagoa, has declared his support for the incumbent governor, breaking away from the Labour Party candidate, Udengs Eradiri, to back Diri in the upcoming election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has also announced the commencement of recruitment for Ad-Hoc Staff for the off-cycle Governorship Elections in Bayelsa. With registration open for five weeks, the preparations for a smooth and fair election are in progress.

The rivalry between the political parties ahead of the governorship election is intensifying, and the outcome remains uncertain. Bayelsa state is bracing for a highly contested election that will shape the future of the state.

As the election date draws closer, political tensions are expected to escalate even further. The stakes are high for all parties involved, and it is crucial for voters to carefully consider the options presented to them. Only time will tell which party will emerge victorious and lead Bayelsa state into the next phase of its development.
