LAFIA - The Nasarawa State chapter of the opposition People's Democratic Party (PDP) on Sunday dared some selected traditional rulers in the state, who were out to prevent the outcome of the tribunal to stay away and allow justice to take its cause.
In a press briefing held in Lafia, the state capital, Francis Orogu, the state chairman of the opposition PDP, expressed the party's dissatisfaction with the involvement of traditional rulers in political matters. He stated that these traditional rulers had taken positions before, during, and after the election, with concerted efforts to ensure that David Umbugado and the PDP do not receive justice at the tribunal.
Orogu highlighted the actions of three traditional rulers who were seen at the office of Vice President Kashim Shettiman. These rulers, former High Court Judges, have allegedly made all contacts necessary to lobby in favor of Governor Sule and obstruct justice at the tribunal, using their influence and past judicial positions.
While acknowledging that traditional rulers have a role in society, Orogu accused them of compromising on their responsibilities by involving themselves in politics. He reminded the traditional rulers of an election outcome in the past, where despite their influence, Aliyu Akwe Doma lost to Tanko Al-Makura in 2011.
The PDP chairman advised the traditional rulers to refocus on their roles as custodians of tradition and refrain from undermining their positions by getting involved in politics. He urged Vice President Kashim Shettiman to disregard their requests and allow justice to prevail in the tribunal case.
It is essential for traditional rulers to maintain neutrality and impartiality in political matters. Their involvement can be seen as a breach of trust and a violation of the sacred institution they represent. While they have the right to their own political beliefs and affiliations, it is crucial that they do not manipulate their positions to influence the outcome of legal proceedings.
The PDP's call for traditional rulers to abstain from interfering in the tribunal case stems from their concerns about fairness and justice. The party believes that the actions of these selected traditional rulers are an attempt to tip the scales in favor of Governor Sule and impede the PDP from receiving a fair hearing.
Furthermore, Orogu's mention of the three traditional rulers who are former High Court Judges raises questions about their motivations and impartiality. Their past affiliations with the judiciary should not overshadow the need for a fair and unbiased judgment.
Traditional rulers play a vital role in maintaining peace, harmony, and cultural heritage. Their place in society should be protected by refraining from engaging in political activities that may compromise their positions. Instead, they should focus on preserving the traditions and cultural values that have defined their communities for generations.
Vice President Kashim Shettiman has the opportunity to uphold the principles of justice by disregarding the requests of these traditional rulers. Allowing the tribunal case to proceed without interference from influential individuals is crucial for ensuring a fair and unbiased judgment.
<It is time for traditional rulers to reflect on their responsibilities and recommit themselves to their traditional roles. By doing so, they can regain the trust and respect of the people they serve. The PDP's call for justice demonstrates their determination to ensure fairness and integrity in the legal process.
In conclusion, the involvement of traditional rulers in political matters, as highlighted by the Nasarawa State chapter of the PDP, raises concerns about impartiality and fairness. The PDP's call for these traditional rulers to step back and allow justice to prevail at the tribunal is an important reminder of the need for unbiased judgment and the preservation of traditional institutions.
