Enugu State Government Promises Support for Nigerian Navy's Planned Naval Base and Facilities

The Enugu State government has pledged to support the Nigerian Navy in its efforts to establish a naval operational base, hospital, and welfare school in the state. This commitment was made by Governor Peter Mbah during a meeting with members of the Naval Committee on the Establishment of Naval Base at Ogurugu Inland Water, led by Rear Admiral Chijioke Onyemaobi.

Governor Mbah expressed his administration's dedication to partnering with the federal government to ensure lasting peace and security in Enugu. Recognizing the strategic importance of the proposed facilities, he highlighted their potential benefits to the state.

Since taking office, Governor Mbah has prioritized peace and security in Enugu. He emphasized that his administration's policies and programs are shaped around achieving these objectives to facilitate targeted economic growth.

During the meeting, Governor Mbah commended the Nigerian Navy for choosing Enugu as the site for the naval operational base, hospital, and welfare school. He stated that these developments would restore the state's lost glory as the premier headquarters of the old southern region of Nigeria.

Additionally, the governor assured the Nigerian Navy of the state's unwavering support for the projects, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding the lives and property of the people. He reiterated that Enugu would spare no effort in ensuring the success of the initiatives.

In his remarks, Rear Admiral Onyemaobi commended the support the Enugu State government had provided to the committee in terms of logistics and accommodation. He emphasized the importance of the naval operational base in strengthening internal security, boosting investor confidence, and encouraging more commercial activities in the area.

The committee visited the proposed sites for the naval operational base and welfare school and found them suitable for the projects. The depth and size of the water at the Ogurugu community were deemed adequate for the establishment of the base. The proposed site for the welfare school at Umuopu in Igboeze North local government area was also confirmed as suitable.

Rear Admiral Onyemaobi further praised the support and assurances received from the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 82 Division Enugu, the Director of the Department of State Services, and the Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command.
