Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, has made a shocking disclosure, admitting that he fully worked against the presidential aspiration of People's Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Atiku Abubakar, during the recent February 25 election. In a candid interview on Channels Television's 'Politics Today', Fayose defended his stance, stating that he is not afraid of expulsion from the PDP for his actions, which could be seen as anti-party activities.
Despite actively working against Atiku's campaign, Fayose made it clear that he has no intentions of joining the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), even after President Bola Tinubu's victory. "I am still a member of the PDP unless they say 'Fayose, we don't want you anymore.' I will never join the APC," Fayose asserted.
Throughout the interview, Fayose expressed his admiration for President Tinubu, whom he regards as the new leader of the Yoruba race. He even reminisced about placing birthday adverts in major newspapers to celebrate Tinubu during his time as Ekiti governor. "Even when the APC was playing games, I stood up to remind President Buhari that Asiwaju was instrumental in his becoming president of Nigeria. As a Yoruba man, he deserves respect," Fayose said.
Despite his admiration for Tinubu, Fayose categorically stated that he worked against Atiku during the recent election. "I worked against him (Atiku) 100 per cent. Nigeria is bigger than the PDP, APC, and even Asiwaju himself," Fayose declared.
Fayose concluded by expressing that even if he was expelled from the PDP, he would not feel slighted. He hopes that his sacrifice for the unity of Nigeria would be recognized someday. He clarified that despite his actions, he still loves the PDP. His frank admission has sparked widespread discussion about the complexity of political alliances and loyalty in Nigerian politics.
