Ogun State Local Government Areas Receive N5.2 Billion Allocation
The Ogun State Joint Account Allocation Committee (JAAC) has disbursed N5,233,379,834.30 among the 20 local government areas in the state. The disbursement, which was announced during the August 2023 edition of the JAAC meeting, aims to foster accountability, transparency, and integrity. The chairmen of the local governments are urged to use the funds for developmental projects and represent the interests of the people.

The Ogun State Joint Account Allocation Committee (JAAC) has disbursed a total sum of N5,233,379,834.30 among the 20 local government areas in the state. The disbursement was made during the August 2023 edition of the JAAC meeting held at the Conference Hall, Oba's Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

The purpose of the gathering was to strengthen accountability, transparency, and integrity in the allocation of funds to local government areas. The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Dr Rotimiolu Akinlesi, welcomed the chairmen of the local governments and emphasized the importance of their role in representing and seeking the interests of the people.

Dr Akinlesi urged the chairmen to utilize the funds for more developmental projects in their respective council areas. He commended the achievements of the local government chairmen over the past two years, despite the challenges faced by the nation.

Mr Babatunde Aregbesola, the Permanent Secretary and Accountant-General of the State Treasury, presented a breakdown of the disbursement. He revealed that N5,233,379,834.30 was accrued to the 20 local government areas in the State for August 2023 from Statutory Revenue, Value Added Tax (VAT), Exchange Difference, and Electronic Money Transfer Levy (EMTL).

Outlining the first-line charges, Aregbesola stated that N5,143,138,652.75 would be allocated for primary school teachers' salaries, local government staff salaries and allowances, Traditional Councils' pensions, and other necessary expenses.

The representatives of the Ijebu Traditional Council, the Obiri of Ayepe, Oba Adebisi Okubanjo, and the Chairman of the Local Government Pensioners' Association of Nigeria, Pastor Benedict Ademoye, expressed their appreciation to the state government for the consistent JAAC meetings. They praised the meetings for providing accurate facts and figures concerning local government allocations in the state.

This allocation of funds to the local government areas of Ogun State will play a significant role in promoting development at the grassroots level. It is expected that the chairmen of the respective local governments will prioritize the execution of projects that will positively impact the lives of the people.

The JAAC meetings serve as a platform for monitoring and evaluation of the disbursement process, ensuring transparency and accountability in the allocation of funds.
