The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has issued a stern warning to contractors handling the rehabilitation of 135 roads in Abuja. During the inauguration of the projects on Monday, Minister Wike emphasized that any attempts at contract variations would not be tolerated.

The rehabilitation projects, set to be completed within six months, aim to improve the condition of the capital city's road infrastructure. Minister Wike expressed the determination of the FCT to ensure timely completion of the projects by paying the contractors promptly.

Addressing the contractors, Minister Wike stated, "To the contractors, let me warn you now, all these things you are doing with engineering services will not work again. Nothing like variation; it will not work. Kobo, one naira, in the next seven days it becomes N15, it will not work again."

He further emphasized that there would be no room for contract variations and advised the contractors against attempting to negotiate changes in the scope of work. Minister Wike assured the contractors that the FCT has sufficient funds to pay them promptly and in full.

In a bold move, the minister specifically warned against involving the engineering services in attempting to alter the terms of the contracts. He highlighted that all possible contingencies had been considered, leaving no room for reconsideration or unexpected issues.

Minister Wike also called on the residents of Abuja to support the contractors by allowing them to carry out their work smoothly. He acknowledged that development often comes with temporary inconveniences, urging the public to bear with the ongoing construction activities and remain patient.

The rehabilitation of the 135 roads in the FCT is a crucial project aimed at improving the overall infrastructure and connectivity in the capital city. The completion of these projects within the agreed-upon timeline will bring relief to residents and enhance transportation efficiency.

The warning issued by Minister Nyesom Wike serves as a reminder to contractors of the importance of sticking to the terms of their agreements and delivering the projects on time. By sternly rejecting contract variations, the minister underscores the commitment of the FCT Administration to prioritize the timely completion of infrastructure projects for the benefit of all.
