NERC Launches App to Monitor Electricity Distribution Companies’ Compliance with Tariffs
The Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has launched a new app, called the Power Outage Reporting System (PORS), to monitor the compliance of Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) with the tariffs set in regulations. The app allows customers to report disruptions in power supply and aims to improve transparency and accountability in the industry.

The Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) is taking a proactive step towards ensuring compliance with the tariffs set for Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) in the country. On Monday, September 11, the commission launched the Power Outage Reporting System (PORS) App, with the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) as a pilot project.

The newly introduced app is designed to monitor the compliance of DisCos with the tariff regulations established by NERC. This move is crucial to enhancing the quality of supply regulation, as in recent times, there have been concerns about the level of service received by customers.

NERC Chairman, Sanusi Garba, highlighted the significance of the app during the launch event in Abuja. He stated that the app "is supposed to assist the commission in monitoring that DisCos are actually complying with the tariff that was set with that regulation."

The Power Outage Reporting System (PORS) App empowers customers to provide feedback and report disruptions in the supply of electricity within their areas. This helps the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) to promptly address issues and improve service delivery.

One of the major challenges faced by customers during power outages is the difficulty in reaching the customer care of DisCos. Customers often endure being in the dark for days without a solution. With the introduction of this app, customers can now directly report disruptions, ensuring their concerns are addressed in a timely manner.

Although currently implemented as a pilot project with the AEDC, NERC plans to roll out the app nationwide, involving other energy distribution companies in the Nigeria Electricity Supply Industry (NESI). This initiative will help improve transparency, accountability, and customer satisfaction within the sector.

The Power Outage Reporting System (PORS) App is available for download on the Google Play Store, making it easily accessible to customers. Through the app, customers can now play an active role in monitoring the compliance of DisCos and providing valuable feedback to enhance the overall power supply experience in Nigeria.

This move by NERC demonstrates its commitment to addressing concerns and improving the quality of electricity supply in the country.
