In a recent development, the Supreme Egbesu Order (SEO), an Ijaw religious organization, has accused Major General Barry Ndiomu (retd.), the Interim Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), of engaging in partisan activities and misrepresentation. SEO alleges that Ndiomu leaked confidential documents and falsely claimed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) deputy governorship candidate, Joshua Maciver, did not participate in the amnesty programme.
According to the Chief Superintending Officer of SEO, Apostle Bodmas Kemepadei, Ndiomu's alleged actions indicate his bias towards the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State. SEO questions how a confidential correspondence between Ndiomu and the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) found its way to the Bayelsa State Government House and members of the PDP in the state.
SEO argues that Ndiomu's leaked documents were aimed at discrediting the Sylva/Maciver ticket, the APC's candidates for the upcoming governorship election on November 11. Kemepadei considers this act a deliberate move to provide an advantage to the PDP and Governor Diri, indicating Ndiomu's ulterior motives.
The leakage of confidential documents by a public officeholder is seen by SEO as treasonable, and the organization has called on the presidency to direct the Department of State Service (DSS) to investigate the matter thoroughly. Additionally, Apostle Bodmas Kemepadei appeals to the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, to probe Ndiomu's activities in the amnesty office and allegations of using his position to assist Governor Diri in defeating the APC in Bayelsa State.
Disputing Ndiomu's claim that Joshua Maciver was not granted amnesty and did not participate in the programme, SEO reveals evidence that Maciver actively engaged in the amnesty programme. Maciver's participation is documented, and he is recognized as one of the top leaders who oversaw more than 250 ex-agitators. Testimonies confirm that Maciver was entrusted with the responsibility of paying his boys their monthly stipends without fail.
SEO emphasizes that Maciver's involvement was not limited to being a leader but also encompassed attending numerous meetings organized by previous PAP coordinators to discuss issues affecting the Niger Delta region. According to SEO, Ndiomu's claim of Maciver's non-participation in the amnesty programme is an intentional misrepresentation influenced by his partisan affiliation, favoring the PDP and neglecting his duty to act without prejudice.
The Supreme Egbesu Order appeals to the Federal Government to remove Major General Barry Ndiomu from the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), as a public officeholder should not engage in political maneuvering. Furthermore, SEO has reached out to Joshua Maciver to pursue legal action against Ndiomu for criminal defamation.
