Nigerian Meteorological Agency Receives ISO Certifications for Aeronautical Meteorological Services and Capacity Building
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has recently achieved recertifications for two important International Standard Organization (ISO) certifications - ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 29990:2010. These certifications were granted to NiMet for its provision of aeronautical meteorological services and its capacity building initiatives. The recertifications highlight NiMet's commitment to excellence and its dedication to meeting international standards.

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has acquired the recertification of the International Standard Organization (ISO) 9001:2015 and ISO 29990:2010 for the provision of aeronautical meteorological services and capacity building. The ISO 9001:2015 certification was acquired for aeronautical meteorological services in the six major international airports in the country, while the ISO 29990:2010 certification was acquired for NiMet's training institutes.

This achievement was announced by the Director General/CEO of NiMet, Prof. Mansur Bako Matazu, who explained that the agency had been working towards this recertification since 2013. The ISO 9001:2015 certification reiterates NiMet's commitment to providing high-quality meteorological services to the aviation industry.

NiMet's aeronautical meteorological services play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of air travel. By adhering to international standards, NiMet ensures that accurate and reliable weather information is provided to pilots, air traffic controllers, and aviation stakeholders who rely on meteorology for flight planning and operations.

Prof. Mansur Bako Matazu also mentioned NiMet's plans to extend the ISO 9001:2015 certification to 10 more airports across the country. This expansion will further enhance the safety and efficiency of air travel in Nigeria by bringing standardized meteorological services to more airports.

In addition to the ISO 9001:2015 certification, NiMet also acquired the recertification of the ISO 29990:2010 standard for its training institutes. These institutes, namely the Regional Training Centre (RTC) in Lagos and the Muhammadu Buhari Meteorological Institute of Science and Technology (MBMIST) in Katsina, provide essential training programs in meteorology.

The RTC in Lagos is a World Meteorological Organization (WMO) accredited training center, while the MBMIST in Katsina is accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and offers diploma courses in meteorology. The ISO 29990:2010 certification reaffirms the quality and adherence to standards in the training programs offered by NiMet.

With these recertifications, NiMet showcases its dedication to maintaining international standards of excellence in the field of meteorology. The ISO certifications serve as a testament to NiMet's commitment to continually improve its services and ensure the utmost safety and efficiency in aviation operations in Nigeria.
