Nigeria Solidarity Support Fund (NSSF) has partnered with the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA) to address the pressing need for routine child immunisations in the country. The collaboration was formalized through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), paving the way for enhanced interventions and increased funding to scale up immunisation efforts.
With a funding commitment of N150 million, the NSSF aims to boost routine child immunisation and prevent the spread of diseases that can be prevented through vaccination. The initiative will focus on three Nigerian states: Cross River, Kwara, and Ogun, which have been selected based on their current immunisation challenges.
Dr. Fejiro Chinye-Nwoko, the CEO of NSSF, highlighted the significance of the partnership in strengthening routine child immunisation and ensuring the effective delivery of vaccines. She emphasized the role of accountability in donor funding and explained that the meeting aimed to design a comprehensive monitoring and evaluation framework to be implemented at national, state, and local council levels.
Dr. Bassey Okposen, the Director of Disease Control and Immunisation at NPHCDA, acknowledged the existing gaps in routine child immunisation in certain states and welcomed the partnership's goal of bridging those gaps. The collaboration intends to boost immunisation efforts, particularly in states that lag behind in terms of immunisation rates.
The partnership recognizes the critical role of routine immunisation in safeguarding the health and well-being of the nation's children. By conducting vaccination outreaches in strategic locations, the collaborative effort aims to ensure that every child has access to life-saving vaccines.
The initiative will prioritize improving access to vaccines, especially in hard-to-reach communities and areas with low immunisation coverage. By doing so, the immunisation gap will be closed, and vulnerable populations will be protected from preventable diseases.
This partnership between NSSF and NPHCDA signifies a significant step forward in Nigeria's efforts to strengthen routine child immunisation. By combining funding and operational expertise, the two organizations aim to make a positive impact on the health of children in the selected states. The comprehensive monitoring and evaluation framework will facilitate accountability and ensure that the funding translates into improved immunisation coverage and health outcomes.
