Nurturing High Standards for Better Service Delivery: The Role of Judiciary Librarians
The Administrator of National Judicial Institute Abuja, Justice Salisu Garba (rtd), has emphasized the importance of high ethical standards for judiciary librarians and library officers. In a workshop organized by the NJI, he urged them to adhere to the Code of Conduct and strive for continuous learning to promote public confidence in the judiciary. The workshop aims to improve the delivery of library services, embracing technology and global best practices.

The role of judiciary librarians and library officers in ensuring efficient and effective service delivery cannot be overstated. It is therefore crucial for these professionals to uphold high ethical standards in the discharge of their official duties. This was the key message delivered by Justice Salisu Garba (rtd), the Administrator of National Judicial Institute (NJI), during a recent workshop organized for judiciary librarians and library officers.

In his address, Justice Garba emphasized the importance of observing a high standard of conduct to preserve the integrity and independence of the judiciary. He urged participants to comply strictly with the Code of Conduct for court employees, as their actions reflect on the reputation of the judiciary as a whole.

Highlighting the significance of library services to the judiciary, Justice Garba noted that the availability of relevant information plays a vital role in advancing the course of justice. He recognized the integral role played by judicial librarians and library officers in ensuring that the administration of justice is efficient and effective.

The theme of the workshop, "Nurturing High Standards for Better Service Delivery," underscores the need for improved judicial library services to meet the challenges of a fast-paced and evolving world. The workshop aims to foster a better library service delivery by providing a platform for interaction, sharing of ideas, and experiences among judiciary librarians and library officers from different jurisdictions.

As technology rapidly advances, Justice Garba encouraged participants to embrace it as a tool for swift and efficient service delivery. He emphasized that Information Communication Technology (ICT) is an integral part of any profession in the modern world, and library management expertise can greatly aid in the organization, tracking, and maintenance of documents, inventories, and records.

However, Justice Garba cautioned that while technology is essential, it cannot replace human expertise. Judicial librarians and library officers must keep pace with emerging technologies and adjust to new research needs and information to effectively discharge their duties.

The workshop presents an opportunity for participants to develop and adopt innovative procedures, techniques, and strategies that improve efficiency in service delivery. By nurturing high standards and embracing technology, judiciary librarians and library officers can enhance the quality and effectiveness of their services.
