FCT Minister Warns Contractors Against Incessant Contract Variations
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has issued a stern warning to contractors handling the rehabilitation of 135 roads in Abuja. He cautioned them against incessant contract variations and assured timely payment for the projects. The FCT Administration aims to complete the road rehabilitation within six months, improving traffic flow and reducing travel time for residents and visitors.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has issued a stern warning to contractors responsible for rehabilitating 135 roads in the capital city of Abuja. During the flag-off ceremony for the projects, Wike emphasized the importance of completing the work within the agreed timeline and discouraged the practice of contract variations.

Wike expressed his commitment to promptly pay the contractors for their services, to ensure the projects are completed as scheduled. He firmly stated that no variations to the agreed terms will be entertained and urged the contractors to focus on delivering the work without unnecessary delays.

He directed the Permanent Secretary of FCT Administration, Mr Olusade Adesola, to refrain from bringing any requests for reconsideration or filing papers for unforeseen issues. Wike claimed that everything had been considered and anticipated in the planning, leaving no room for modifications or alterations.

The Minister called upon the support of local residents, traditional rulers, and community leaders to facilitate the smooth execution of the projects. He acknowledged that the development process might cause some inconveniences but emphasized the long-term benefits of improved road infrastructure.

The Minister of State, FCT, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, highlighted the achievements already recorded in the capital city within a brief period since Nyesom Wike assumed office. She outlined that streetlight issues and sanitation problems have been addressed and emphasized the importance of transforming the road infrastructure to positively impact residents' lives.

The Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Ahmed Hadi, explained that numerous roads in Phase I, developed since the 1980s, have deteriorated. The rehabilitation project will involve various methods, including scarification, asphalt removal, and overlay, over a distance of 42 kilometers. The areas covered include Wuse, Garki, parts of Maitama, and Asokoro.

Upon completion, the road rehabilitation is expected to enhance traffic flow, reduce travel time, and improve overall safety for motorists and pedestrians.

Mr Muktar Betara, Chairman of the House Committee on FCT, expressed confidence in Minister Nyesom Wike's ability to deliver the transformative agenda for the FCT. He reassured the Minister of the committee's support in realizing the goal of making Abuja the desired destination for Nigerians.
