Lagos State Assures Completion of Redline Light Rail System by 2023
Governor Bababjide Sanwo-Olu has assured residents of Lagos State that the construction of the redline light rail system from Ebute Metta to Agbado would be ready by the end of 2023. The project, which is about 95 percent completed, aims to provide efficient transportation options for the growing population of Lagos State.

Lagos State, one of the fastest-growing cities in Africa, is taking significant strides towards improving its transportation infrastructure. Governor Bababjide Sanwo-Olu recently announced that the construction of the redline light rail system is nearing completion and is projected to be fully operational by the end of 2023.

The redline light rail system, which spans from Ebute Metta to Agbado, is a bold initiative aimed at addressing the transportation challenges faced by Lagos residents. With the city's population rapidly increasing, there is a growing need for efficient and reliable transportation options.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, accompanied by key stakeholders, took the inaugural train ride from Marina Station to Mile-2 Station and provided insights into the progress of the project. He assured the public that the redline light rail system is approximately 95 percent complete, signaling its imminent launch.

One of the major milestones in the project is the construction of flyover bridges along the redline route. These bridges will be commissioned and gradually opened to the public from the end of September. This allows both passengers and motorists to utilize the facilities, further easing traffic congestion in the city.

"The Red Line Rail is going to be completed before the end of this year as we are about 95 to 96 percent done on the project," Governor Sanwo-Olu stated. He also emphasized the importance of the upcoming bridge openings, as they will serve as a tangible reminder that the redline rail system is set to transform transportation in Lagos.

Beyond the infrastructure development, the recruitment process for train operators and train managers has already commenced. The retro-fitting of the trains is also well underway. These proactive steps demonstrate Lagos State's commitment to ensuring the redline light rail system is fully operational once the construction phase concludes.

Furthermore, Governor Sanwo-Olu highlighted that the redline rail project surpasses the already operational blue line in terms of scope and impact. The redline light rail system demonstrates Lagos' ambition to provide a comprehensive and modern transportation network for its residents.

During the inaugural train ride, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the importance of safety for passengers. The rail line is electrified, making it crucial for residents to avoid crossing the tracks to prevent accidents or electrocution. He also provided information on various methods of accessing the train, such as the Cowry card and the LAG-ID from the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA).

The redline light rail system is not just a transportation project; it represents a significant milestone in Lagos State's quest for sustainable development. With improved connectivity and reduced travel time, residents will benefit from increased productivity, enhanced accessibility, and a greener mode of transportation.

The vision for the redline light rail system dates back to the administration of President Bola Tinubu, whose forward-thinking approach set the foundation for this transformative project. Governor Sanwo-Olu praised President Tinubu's vision and acknowledged the invaluable contribution made by past administrations in moving the project from concept to reality.

As Lagos State nears the completion of the redline light rail system, residents eagerly await the implementation of this game-changing transportation network. With the project expected to be fully operational by the end of 2023, Lagosians can look forward to a more efficient and enjoyable commute, ultimately enhancing the overall quality of life in the city.
