Lagos - The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi State has received a significant boost ahead of the forthcoming governorship election on November 11. Members of the opposition party, People's Democratic Party (PDP), have joined forces with the APC, endorsing the party's gubernatorial candidate, Hon Ododo Ahmed Usman.
In a press statement released on Thursday, it was revealed that the entire PDP structure from Olamaboro Local Government Area, led by Senator Attai Aidoko Ali, officially defected to the ruling party. Governor Yahaya Bello welcomed the group into the APC, commending their decision to contribute to the development of the state.
Highlighting his commitment to an inclusive government, Governor Bello stressed that both longtime APC members and new supporters would be afforded equal opportunities to work towards the overall welfare of the people. This move towards unity and inclusivity is seen as a lasting legacy of the current administration.
Senator Attai Aidoko Ali, speaking on behalf of the delegation, emphasized the need for a broad-based coalition that transcends party and ethnic lines. He criticized those promoting ethnic agendas, describing them as narrow-minded and detrimental to the advancement of Kogi State.
Aidoko advocated for an inclusive approach that prioritizes the interests of all Kogi State residents, regardless of their ethnic backgrounds. By rejecting divisive politics, he believes that Kogi State can achieve greater unity and collective prosperity.
Aidoko acknowledged Governor Yahaya Bello's influential position within the ruling party at both the federal and state levels. He asserted that Bello serves as the ideal catalyst to integrate Kogi into the mainstream of national political participation.
Having witnessed the ruling party's electoral successes in the state since 2015, Aidoko highlighted that Kogi would no longer remain passive in Nigeria's national political development.
The delegation accompanying Senator Aidoko consisted of prominent party stakeholders from various political backgrounds, including the pioneer State Secretary of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria and the former Chairman of the PDP Olamaboro Local Government Area.
Senator Aidoko pledged unwavering support and expressed his commitment to stand firmly behind Governor Bello at all times. Leveraging his political experience gained from serving in both chambers of the National Assembly for 16 years, Aidoko vowed to utilize his political capital across Kogi State to ensure the victory of the APC candidate in the upcoming governorship election.
With the endorsement from PDP members and the rallying of key political figures behind the APC's governorship candidate, it appears that the ruling party is consolidating its support base and strengthening its chances in the forthcoming election.
Political observers believe that this move towards political integration and an inclusive approach could mark a turning point in Kogi State's political landscape. Rejecting divisive politics based on ethnic agendas, both the ruling party and the defectors have taken a bold step towards achieving the overall progress and development of the state.
