Nigerian Army General Urges Disloyal Soldiers to Leave and Join Other Professions
The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Mohammed Takuti Usman, has called upon soldiers who lack loyalty to leave the force and pursue other professions. He emphasized the importance of soldiers' loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other higher authorities. This statement comes amidst a series of military coups that have transpired in African nations in recent weeks.

In a bid to prioritize loyalty within the Nigerian Army, Major General Mohammed Takuti Usman urged soldiers who lack allegiance to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other constituted authorities to exit the force and explore alternative career paths.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division Nigerian Army delivered this message during an address to soldiers at the 35 Artillery Brigade in Alamala, Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Wednesday, August 30.

The call for loyalty comes at a time when military coups are unfolding in various African nations. Usman stressed that loyalty should begin with President Tinubu, who serves as the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces. He further emphasized the significance of loyalty to the Chief of Defence Staff, Chief of Army Staff, and Brigade Commander.

"When I mean loyalty, your loyalty must start with the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces who is the President. That's first, and then down the ladder. Loyalty to the Chief of Defence Staff, Chief of Army Staff, down to your Brigade Commander," said Major General Usman.

He added, "You have to be loyal. There is no room for soldiers that are not loyal to the constituted authority, no. If you are not going to be loyal, then, leave, go and do other work. But the Armed Forces cannot stand it if you are not loyal."

Meanwhile, Gabon, one of the African nations, recently witnessed a military coup. Army officers under the Committee for the Transition and Restoration of Institutions (CTRI) in Gabon cited several reasons for ousting President Ali Bongo from power. Bongo himself made a desperate appeal for help from his detention, urging his friends to raise awareness after being deposed by the military.

The military coup in Gabon serves as yet another reminder of the growing instability within several African countries. World leaders have since reacted to the situation, addressing concerns over the continuous power shifts through military intervention.

The Nigerian Army's call for loyalty underscores the need to maintain stability and adherence to constitutional authorities. The Armed Forces regard loyalty as a fundamental aspect of their operation.
