PDP Urges ODIEC to Declare Position on Local Council Elections in Ondo State
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has called on the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC) to clarify its position on the status of the newly created Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs). The party is concerned about whether the local council elections, scheduled for February 2024, would also be held in the newly created LCDAs. PDP emphasized the need for ODIEC to make its stance known to avoid wasting resources of aspiring candidates and political parties.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has urged the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC) to come forward and declare its position regarding the newly created Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state. The party is seeking clarity on whether the forthcoming local council elections, scheduled for February 2024, would include the newly created LCDAs as entities.

In a statement released by the state Publicity Secretary of PDP, Kennedy Peretei, the party stressed the importance of ODIEC clarifying the status of the LCDAs. This clarification is necessary to guide aspirants in different political parties who have obtained nomination forms for the local council elections.

PDP expressed concern about the potential waste of resources if the election does not cover the newly created LCDAs. The party believes it would be unfair for ODIEC to allow aspirants and their respective parties to spend money on campaigns if the elections are not going to be held in these newly established areas.

The opposition party in the state acknowledged the confusion and protests that greeted the creation of the LCDAs, which have raised doubts about the feasibility of conducting the local council elections as scheduled.

The statement from PDP reads, "A couple of months ago, the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC) announced its readiness to conduct Local Government Elections into the eighteen Local Government Areas in December 2023. However, the electoral body rescheduled the polls for February 2024. While preparations were on top gear, the State Government announced the creation of 33 LCDAs. The confusion and protests that greeted the LCDA creation are yet to settle."

As a result of these developments, PDP called on ODIEC to clear the air and provide a definitive answer on whether or not elections will take place in the newly created LCDAs. The party is demanding transparency and sincerity from the electoral body in order to protect the interest of its candidates and prevent wasteful expenditures.

In conclusion, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has urged the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC) to clarify its position on the local council elections. The party is concerned about the newly created LCDAs and whether the upcoming elections will include these areas as separate entities. PDP emphasized the need for ODIEC to provide a clear answer to avoid wasting resources of aspiring candidates and political parties. The party is also worried about the confusion and protests surrounding the creation of the LCDAs and hopes for a resolution soon.
