Delta State Government Extends Palliative Measures to Local Government Workers
Delta State Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Barrister Victor Ebonka, has announced that local government workers in the state will receive the same palliative packages as state public service workers. This decision comes as the government seeks to ease the financial burden caused by the removal of fuel subsidies. Alongside the additional monthly allowance of N10,000, local government workers will also be placed on a similar work schedule to their state counterparts.

Delta State Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Barrister Victor Ebonka, has revealed that the government will implement the same palliative measures approved for state public service workers to local government workers. In a bid to alleviate the financial impact of the fuel subsidy removal, workers in the 25 local government councils in Delta State will also receive an additional N10,000 per month for a period of three months.

The decision to extend the palliative measures to local government workers was made by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, following discussions with ALGON. Barrister Victor Ebonka, who also serves as the Chairman of Ika North-East Local Government Council, expressed gratitude for the support shown by the state government. He emphasized that these measures would greatly alleviate the burden on the workers.

Not only will local government workers benefit from the additional monthly allowance, but they will also be placed on a work schedule similar to that of state workers. This shift system aims to reduce the impact of fuel subsidy removal, allowing workers to plan and manage their expenses more effectively. All workers, including those from the Local Education Authority (LEA) and primary school teachers, as well as their support staff, will be eligible for these palliative packages.

The ALGON chairman also addressed the issue of loan facilities for local government pensioners and assured that all necessary preparations had been made. The funds are expected to be accessed by the end of August, with payments scheduled to begin the following month. This development brings hope to pensioners who have been eagerly awaiting the disbursement.

On a separate note, Barrister Victor Ebonka revealed that the recruitment exercise for teachers and non-teaching staff in primary schools was already underway. This recruitment is based on a needs assessment, ensuring that the right number of teachers is employed in each local government area. Eligible candidates will soon be invited for interviews, showcasing the government's commitment to strengthening the education sector in Delta State.
