The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has initiated an ambitious project to rehabilitate and resurface 135 roads across Abuja, in line with the "Renewed Hope Agenda" of the President Bola Tinubu administration. The Minister of the FCT, Mr Nyesom Wike, inaugurated Phase I of the project on Monday and set a six-month completion timeline for the contractors.
Most of the roads earmarked for rehabilitation and resurfacing are located in the Wuse District, a bustling and densely populated area in Abuja. The list of streets covers all six zones of the district, with a total of 44 roads set to undergo improvement works.
In Wuse Zone 1, some of the major streets that will be rehabilitated include Daloa, Kayes, Bumbuna, Oran, and Masana. These roads, once completed, will provide smoother travel routes for residents and alleviate traffic congestion in the area.
Zone II of Wuse District will see the resurfacing of streets such as Kribi, Gaborone, Kisumu, and Johannesbourg. These roads, which experience heavy traffic on a daily basis, will benefit from the rehabilitation efforts.
In Zone 3, a total of six streets, including Al-Fayyun, Aswan, and Ndele, will be rehabilitated to enhance connectivity and accessibility in the area.
Zone 4 of Wuse District will witness the rehabilitation and resurfacing of several crucial roads like Yar'adua Road, Port Said, and Melange. These improvements will greatly improve the overall transportation network and facilitate smoother journeys for commuters.
The remaining two zones of Wuse District, namely Zone 5 and Zone 6, will see the rehabilitation of important streets like Doula, Windhoek, Cotonou, and Bouake. These enhancements will undoubtedly benefit the local population and enhance the livability of the area.
While Wuse District has the lion's share of the road rehabilitation and resurfacing projects, other districts in Abuja will also witness similar infrastructure improvements. Garki District will see the rehabilitation of Ladoke Akintola Boulevard in Garki II, and Strabag Road in Gwarimpa Life-Camp. Maitama District, on the other hand, will witness the rehabilitation of several important roads, including N16 Road, Maitama Roundabout, and Ahmadu Bello Way.
The entire project underscores the commitment of the FCTA to improving the quality of life for Abuja residents. By investing in infrastructure development, the government aims to create a more efficient and sustainable urban environment. These road rehabilitation and resurfacing efforts will alleviate traffic congestion, reduce commute times, and enhance the overall mobility within the city.
Residents and commuters are optimistic about the positive impact of these infrastructure improvements. The completion of these projects within the stipulated timeframe will contribute to the long-term development of the FCT and further establish Abuja as a modern and well-connected capital city.
