Lagos, Sept. 5, 2023 (NAN) - Dr Sulaimon Ogunmuyiwa, Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BOT) of the First-Class Muslim Foundation, has urged first-class degree holders to make the best use of their qualifications within the first two years. Ogunmuyiwa made these remarks during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at a leadership training organized by the foundation for 30 Muslim first-class graduates in Lagos.
The three-day leadership training aimed at sharpening the skills of first-class Muslim graduates and equipping them with the necessary tools for success. The program featured various professionals as resource persons, including Faheed Olajide, Sanusi Ahmed, and Dr Ganiyah Tijani-Adenle, who shared their expertise on critical thinking, core competence, relationship, marriage, and other relevant topics.
Ogunmuyiwa emphasized that a first-class degree is not a guarantee of success. He regarded it as a mere ticket to a place, urging the graduates to take steps to utilize their qualifications effectively within a two-year timeframe. He cautioned participants not to rely solely on their academic achievements but rather to strive for excellence in all areas of their lives.
Highlighting the foundation's mission, Ogunmuyiwa stated, "Our goal is to add value, make them better and high-flying personalities, having obtained this impressive performance. We also aim to make every Muslim youth in Nigeria a first-class product, not just in academics, but in every endeavor of life."
The BOT Chairman encouraged the graduates to contribute to society and give back to their communities. He reminded them of the responsibilities that come with their esteemed qualifications, emphasizing the importance of serving others and inspiring the younger generation.
While appreciating the efforts of the foundation, Islamiyyah Abdullateef, a participant from Obafemi Awolowo University, commended the program for providing an excellent opportunity for personal growth. Abdullahi Alaka, a first-class graduate from the University of Lagos, also praised the program for its transformative nature, stating that it had broadened his knowledge on critical thinking, competence, networking, and more.
Ogunmuyiwa called upon the government to make the university system more attractive to retain first-class graduates. He emphasized the need for adequate funding and technological advancements in Nigerian universities to cultivate an environment conducive to nurturing and retaining the country's best and brightest minds.
"This is what is going to make our economy stand out and be number one. We can get it all right if we can retain the best brains," he said.
In conclusion, the article highlights the importance of making the best use of a first-class degree. It underscores the need for graduates to go beyond their academic achievements and actively seek opportunities to contribute to society and inspire positive change.
