NSIA Receives House of Representatives Members on Lagos Project Inspection
The Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA) recently hosted members of the House of Representatives who came to Lagos to assess the impact of various projects undertaken by the Authority on the country's economy. The visit primarily focused on healthcare, infrastructure, and agriculture. The lawmakers praised the NSIA's interventions in the healthcare sector, particularly at the NSIA-LUTH Cancer Centre. The NSIA has made significant investments in the healthcare industry, including the establishment of modern medical diagnostic centers and plans for expanding the oncology and diagnostic facilities across Nigeria. Additionally, the lawmakers inspected the Golden Fertilizer Company Limited, revived under the Presidential Fertilizer Initiative, and the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA) recently received members of the House of Representatives who were in Lagos to inspect projects undertaken by the Authority and their impact on the country's economy.

The visit focused on three key areas: healthcare, infrastructure, and agriculture. The House of Representatives constituted an ad-hoc committee to investigate the activities of the NSIA since its inception.

During the visit, the committee commended the NSIA for its intervention in the healthcare sector. The lawmakers began their visit at the NSIA-LUTH Cancer Centre, where they were impressed with the quality of service being rendered to Nigerians. The NSIA has prioritized healthcare since its establishment and has created the NSIA Healthcare Development Investment Company to attract private sector investments in addressing infrastructure gaps, improving manpower, and forging strategic collaborations to enhance healthcare indicators in the country.

One of the highlights of the NSIA's healthcare interventions is the NLCC (NSIA-LUTH Cancer Centre), an outpatient cancer center equipped with modern medical infrastructure. Since its inception, the NLCC has attended to over 10,000 individuals living with cancer, while also enhancing the capacity of medical professionals within the oncology space. Moving forward, the NSIA plans to scale these interventions and establish three additional oncology centers, 23 diagnostic centers, and 7 catheterization laboratories across Nigeria's six geopolitical zones. To implement these projects, the NSIA has set up Medserve, a wholly owned medical services portfolio company.

The Committee Chairman, Hon. Ademorin Kuye, expressed satisfaction with the facilities and services provided at the cancer center. He acknowledged the government's commitment to affordable and efficient cancer care and vowed to report back to the parliament, requesting further investments in the health sector. Patients at the NLCC also lauded the relatively low charges compared to other countries, and they appealed for further government subsidies.

Alongside the focus on healthcare, the NSIA has also invested in modern medical diagnostic centers within the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital and Federal Medical Center, Umuahia. These projects aim to enhance medical diagnosis and intervention across the country.

The House of Representatives committee also visited the Golden Fertilizer Company Limited, which was revived under the Presidential Fertilizer Initiative (PFI) managed by the NSIA. The PFI was designed to consistently deliver affordable, high-quality fertilizer to Nigerian farmers, revitalize the local blending industry, and reduce import dependency. Through the PFI, the NSIA has revived and established over 70 blending plants across Nigeria's six geopolitical zones.

The committee expressed satisfaction with the impact of the initiative in terms of job creation, food availability, foreign exchange conservation, and increased yield for farmers. They pledged to prevent middlemen from taking advantage of the fertilizer initiative and causing shortage or price manipulation.

The visit also included an inspection of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, one of the oldest and busiest routes in Africa. The expressway plays a vital role in unlocking economic activities and promoting the seamless movement of people, goods, and services among Lagos, Oyo, and Ogun States. This project is part of the Presidential Infrastructure Development Fund (PIDF), which aims to accelerate critical infrastructure development in Nigeria. The NSIA acts as the project and fund manager for the PIDF projects.

The Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority remains committed to enabling overall socio-economic growth and diversification across various sectors of the economy, including healthcare, infrastructure, innovation and technology, agriculture, power, gas industrialization, and financial market infrastructure.
