PDP Condemns Calls for Atiku's Suspension: A Battle for Party Dominance
The camp of PDP's flagbearer, Atiku Abubakar, has criticized calls for his suspension, terming it as baseless and unreasonable. This demand, made by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, is seen as an attempt to establish his dominance within the party. Atiku's campaign organization insists that Wike should be called to order.

FCT Abuja - The camp of the Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) flagbearer, Atiku Abubakar, has condemned calls for his suspension from the party, deeming it baseless and unreasonable. The demand for Atiku's suspension was made by the minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, and is generating a fresh storm within the party.

According to The Guardian, a top-ranking PDP member disclosed that Wike's call for Atiku's suspension was supported by some senior members of the National Working Committee (NWC) who intend to expand Wike's influence and frustrate Atiku and his supporters.

Pedro Obaseki, the director of research and strategy for Atiku Abubakar's campaign organization, responded to Wike's call, stating that the party must call him to order. He added, "There is a limit to the continued brigandage of a man who should be grateful to God for all the benefits he has enjoyed in the party. Those whose palm kernels were cracked for them by benevolent spirits should not forget to be humble."

Nyesom Wike, the FCT minister, had previously called for the suspension of both Atiku Abubakar and Aminu Tambuwal from the PDP. Atiku was the PDP presidential candidate in the 2023 election, while Tambuwal is a former governor of Sokoto State and current senator in the opposition party.

Meanwhile, the battle for party dominance continues as the presiding judge of the Benue state High Court sitting in Gboko, D.M Igyuse, recently dismissed a suit seeking to reinstate Iyorchia Ayu as the national chairman of the PDP. The judge deemed the suit as an abuse of the court process.

This recent call for Atiku's suspension is indicative of the power struggle within the PDP. It appears that certain members, led by Nyesom Wike, are determined to assert their influence and control over the party. However, Atiku's camp is unwilling to back down without a fight.

The PDP, as a major opposition party, should be focusing its efforts on uniting and organizing for the future. Infighting and attempts to undermine key figures like Atiku Abubakar do not bode well for the party's chances of success.

It is crucial for the PDP leadership to step in and resolve this internal strife before it escalates further. A united front is necessary to challenge the ruling party effectively and provide a viable alternative for Nigerians.
