In a recent development, the Coordinator of the Tinubu Presidential Legal Team, Babatunde Ogala, has come forward to offer a clarification regarding the water-mark that was observed on the copies of the consolidated judgment of the Court of Appeal regarding the Presidential Election Petition judgment delivered on September 6.
Ogala, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), addressed the mischievous insinuations that have been circulating, seeking to shed light on the innocuous water-mark with the inscription "Tinubu Presidential Legal Team, 'TPLT'". According to him, clarifying this matter has become necessary to dispel any doubts or misconceptions.
Following the delivery of the judgment in the three election petitions by the Court of Appeal on September 6, 2023, the Court instructed its registry to provide physical copies of the same on September 7, 2023. Recognizing the importance of having certified true copies, the Tinubu Presidential Legal Team applied for their own copy and duly paid the prescribed fee.
Interestingly, Babatunde Ogala stressed that lawyers representing the opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), were also present at the registry to collect the judgment simultaneously. In fact, the PDP representative even collected the very first copy made available by the registry.
Upon receiving their own copy, the Tinubu Presidential Legal Team promptly scanned and water-marked it with the inscription "Tinubu Presidential Legal Team 'TPLT'". This was done before the team circulated scanned soft copies to their own lawyers.
Ogala further clarified that the certified true copies issued to all parties involved in the election petitions, including the Tinubu Presidential Legal Team, do not contain the aforementioned inscription. He emphasized that any insinuations to the contrary are entirely untrue.
Moreover, Ogala urged the lawyers representing the petitioners to recognize that the insinuations being propagated are not only untrue but also unkind, unfair, and unfortunate. He reminded them that they possess the same certified copies of the judgment as his team does, and that the accusations hold no weight.
It is important to note the efforts taken by the Tinubu Presidential Legal Team to clarify the situation regarding the water-mark inscription on the copies of the Court of Appeal's consolidated judgment. By providing this explanation, the team hopes to put an end to any unfounded speculations about their actions and intentions.
