Nigeria's National Economic Council Disavows Social Register for Conditional Cash Transfer Program+30

Nigeria's National Economic Council (NEC) has decided to disavow the social register used by the previous administration for the implementation of its conditional cash transfer program. Citing credibility issues, the NEC has instead endorsed state-level cash transfer programs and introduced a six-month cash reward system for public servants. The decision was made at a meeting attended by the Vice-President, state Governors, and other government officials. In addition to these measures, the NEC has also agreed to offer single-digit interest loans to micro, small, and medium enterprises, expedite outstanding payments for public servants and pensioners, and seek relief measures for the poor following the removal of fuel subsidies.
